On this popular wildlife tour in Melbourne, we pick you up from Woodend Train Station around 3 pm and drive onto the iconic Great Dividing Range. (Catch the Bendigo line train from Southern Cross Station in Melbourne CBD and it costs about $9.00 AUD).
You will get to view the beautiful Trentham Falls, the longest single drop falls in Victoria, which is amazing after a good rain and taste the local naturally carbonated mineral spring water which has been Melbourne’s healthy living secret (until now!) which bubbles constantly from the spring. Whilst still light, we drive through the Wombat state forest taking in the changes of the native vegetation through the gorges of the range on some 4×4 tracks with the smell of eucalyptus from the forest. We get to view some amazing wildlife / bird life like the Sulfur Crested Cockatoo, the iconic Kookaburra and small colorful Rosella parrots.
On dusk we stop for dinner usually at a local farm house and enjoy a lovely home cooked meal, (which is included in the price) and even get to go for a small farm tour to meet some cheeky farm yard animals.
Once the sun sets and the sleepy Australian animals start to wake up, we venture back into the forest and search for Wombats, Kangaroos, Wallabies, Owls and Possums on a spotlight tour of the forest. Stopping for a few bush walks along the way, your knowledgeable guide will explain about the individual animals you encounter and what makes these amazing creatures so unique.
Then we return back to Melbourne with our bus around 11.30 pm at your accommodation in the Melbourne CBD area.
This really is a great tour for wildlife photography or if you’re looking for things to do whilst visiting Melbourne. On this small group Wildlife tour you get to see animals up close but we don’t feed animals as they are wild in their natural home, the way they should be.
